Take students on a journey to school in yesteryear! The Wanneroo State School, now named the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse, was first opened in 1899 and closed in 1959. This is a wonderful resource for students to compare school life from the past to the present.
The schooling museum in a box contains:
- A class set of slate boards and chalk
- Nib pens and ink, plus writing sample guides
- A selection of vintage books
- Vintage games: wooden quoits, skittles and hoops
- Assortment of photographs and puzzles
- Teacher guide with background information and activity suggestions
- A series of videos about the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse that are designed for the class to follow along and complete activities. Like stepping back in time to an olden day school lesson.
Please note that our schooling box has been updated.
The value of museums in a box:
Historical objects have tremendous value as a starting point for historical investigation. The opportunity to handle and use physical objects stimulates curiosity and can add to first-hand knowledge about technology and the natural world. They can tell us a great deal about how people lived in the past and provide insights into how the past connects to how we live today. When guided effectively, this type of investigation can lead to critical thinking, hypothesizing and the development of key historical skills. An object investigation can be a rich source of wonder and provide new perspectives on the world around us.
As these resources are popular, we do ask that you only book one museum in a box at a time.
